Baumblüte - Tree Blossom (installation)

The installation BAUMBLÜTE had been conceived as a working progress by the artist Ursula Goldau in
reference to her installation „und auch Geschriftetes“. Scripts/texts, images and spacism are once
again components of her artwork.

Ursula Goldau's previous installation „und auch Geschriftetes“ transformed the showroom of the gallery into
a jungle of words and images, using rag paper that was mounted on the walls like friezes, textstencils
and banners were hanging from the ceiling, reminding us of plants in a rainforest.

The main characteristics in her new work "Baumblüte" are reduction und reversal. The artist worked directly
on the wall. Spring poetry and wortassociations form a personal kanon as she used german, english, spanish
chinese and japanese poetry, and proverbs from Germany, France and Turkey, all of them under the aspect
of treeblosson.

Ursula Goldau formed a tree with her text- and flowericons using her spraypaints. On the opposing wall she
spraypainted a "mountain range" using words and poetry. The tree reminds the artist of kabbalistic images.
As mediator between heaven and earth, the tree is considered a sacred being and occupies an important position
in most religions, particularly in schamanism and within the hindu and buddhist belief. The artist scattered handcut
letters from her stencils on the floor below her wallpainting 'Blossom Tree' , this field of letterflowers awakes the
image of the japanese cherry blossom season. This coincides with the use of japanese literature in the textfragments
within the wallpaintings.

Like in a game of domino, the stochastic operations and the wordmutations suit each other, and they playfully
mirror the structures of cerebral physiology, revealing themselves as images. The soft colors of the spraypaint
compositionc quote the texts: silver, light grey, light blue und pale yellow. Pink has been ommitted with intention
by Ursula Goldau.

Tree blossoms should be perceived as an endangered and fragile event accoring to the artist. Not only suffering
from natural frosts, but also endandered by the climatic changes caused by mankind. In corrospondence to this
endangerment for nature caused by the globale climatic changes, language and texts are equally senistive in their
reaction to the global technological development.

How wonderful art can be! At the opening of the show the tree acoross the road shared its blossom with us.
